Rendermio
Formats
Every file Rendermio can render
Seventeen formats, three ways of reading them. CAD files go through a real geometry kernel and keep their curves; Rhino files come with their stone positions; mesh files are welded, smoothed and split back into parts. Pick your file for what to expect.
CAD — read by a geometry kernel
- STEP.step .stpSTEP is the format every CAD program can export and the one Rendermio reads best.
- IGES.iges .igsIGES is the older interchange format, and a lot of jewellery and tooling still travels as .igs.
- BREP.brepBREP is OpenCascade's own native format — and OpenCascade is the kernel Rendermio runs in your browser.
Rhino
Mesh formats
- STL.stlSTL is the format you already have if the design went to a 3D printer.
- OBJ.objOBJ is the plain-text mesh format everything can write.
- glTF / GLB.glb .gltfglTF is the format built for the web, and it is the one Rendermio reads most completely: the scene, its materials and its compression all come through.
- FBX.fbxFBX is what comes out of Maya, 3ds Max and most game and animation pipelines.
- Collada (DAE).daeCollada is the XML scene format SketchUp writes and Blender still reads.
- PLY.plyPLY is what 3D scanners, photogrammetry and research tools write.
- 3MF.3mf3MF is what modern slicers and print services take, and unlike STL it keeps parts separate.
- AMF.amfAMF was the first attempt to replace STL for printing, and some tools still write it.
- 3DS.3dsThe .3ds format is thirty years old and still everywhere in model libraries.
- VRML.wrl .vrmlVRML was the web's first 3D format, and it is still what some CAD tools and CMMs export.
- VTK.vtkVTK is the mesh format of scientific visualisation — simulation results, medical surfaces, research geometry.
- USDZ / USD.usdz .usdaUSDZ is the format Apple's AR Quick Look uses, and USD is what film and game pipelines are moving to.
- Draco.drcDraco is Google's mesh compression — the same one inside compressed glTF files.
Working in SolidWorks, Fusion, CATIA or Inventor?
Their native files — sldprt / sldasm, f3d, ipt / iam, prt, catpart / catproduct and the rest — are not readable in a browser, and no web tool that claims otherwise is telling the truth. Every one of them exports STEP, which is the format Rendermio reads best. The export path for each program is here.
What people use it for
- Jewellery rendering from your CAD file, in the browser — for jewellers
- Listing photos from the CAD file you already have — for sellers
- A 360° turntable video, from the CAD file — for product pages and social
