What the studio does automatically
What a Look sets, and what it leaves alone
Eleven tiles in the Lighting & backdrop step each set seven things at once. Pressing one is the difference between a scene that took thirty decisions and one that took one — and knowing which seven lets you press it, then change just the one thing you disagree with.
The seven things
A Look sets: the lighting environment (Studio, Pro Jewelry, Jewel Sparkle, Soft Daylight, Sunset, Night) and its brightness; the backdrop; whether the floor shows a shadow or a mirror, and how strong; the pose — ring angle and lean; and the camera angle. Everything in the Lighting & backdrop and Pose & camera steps, in other words, from one tile.
What it leaves alone
Materials. A Look never changes what the piece is made of — the gold stays the karat you chose, the stones stay traced or sparkle as set. The zoom is also yours; a Look sets the angle but not how close. And the export settings are separate: pack, resolution and video move are not part of a Look.
This is deliberate. Lighting and pose are about the shot; materials are about the product. Changing the shot must not quietly change the product.
The eleven
Grouped by what they are for:
- Catalog — white backdrop, even light, upright, the listing shot
- Hero, Showcase — a pool of light on a darker field with a mirror floor; the advertisement
- Midnight, Amber, Forest, Blush — the same pool in a colour
- Luxury Velvet — deep red, light on the piece alone
- Soft Daylight — paper with daylight lighting
- Flat Lay — laid down, top camera, paper light
- Cut-out PNG — transparent, for compositing
Press it, then adjust one thing
The intended workflow is Look first, then a single change: Hero, then Tipped instead of Upright because this ring's stone is the point; Catalog, then a paper sweep instead of pure white because the second image wants softness. Each change is one control in the two steps, and the Look's other six settings stay.
Looks and the floor rule
The floor takes one treatment — a shadow or a mirror, never both, because a shadow drawn on a mirror reads as dirt on glass. Where a Look asks for a mirror, that wins and the shadow is off. Switching either on by hand switches the other off. Everything here happens on your own machine: the file is converted and rendered in the browser through your GPU and is never uploaded, so an unreleased design stays unreleased.
Questions
Does a Look change my materials?
No. A Look sets lighting, backdrop, floor, pose and camera. The metal and the stones stay exactly as you set them — the shot changes, the product does not.
Can I change one thing after pressing a Look?
Yes, and that is the intended use. Press the Look, then change the one control you disagree with — the pose, say — and the other settings stay.
Which Look for a marketplace main image?
Catalog. White backdrop, even light, upright pose. Most marketplaces ask for white on the main image; check the rules for yours.
